How Generations Follow Brands on Social

About 1 in 2 Millennials and Gen Xers follow a brand on social media, according to a January 2017 survey of 1,000 Internet users conducted by Sprout Social. The social software firm learned 48.8% of Gen Xers (ages 35 to 54) and 48.6% of Millennials (ages 18 to 34) currently follow brands on social; by comparison, only 24.5% of Baby Boomers (ages 55 and older) reported using social media to follow brands.

The number of American households owning pets is on the rise, along with spending on pet products and services. Approximately 68% of U.S. households own a pet, according to the 2017-2018 American Pet Products Association's National Pet Owners Survey (APPA). That's equivalent to 84.6 million petowning households.

Nearly half of Americans (48.6%) participated in at least one outdoor activity in 2016, according to the Outdoor Foundation's Outdoor Recreation Participation Topline Report 2017. The study also discovered overall participation increased slightly, up 0.2% from 2015. In all, 144 million Americans made 11 billion outdoor outings in 2016.
