TOP STATES FOR MOST GOOSE HUNTERS IN 2017

We recently looked at duck hunting data from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service's annual survey of national migratory game bird hunter activity and harvest. Here, we'll examine comparable preliminary data for goose hunting during the 2015-16 and 2016-17 hunting seasons.
More than 1 million waterfowl hunters harvested 3,266,900 (±5%) geese in the 2016 season, with Canada goose the predominant goose species in the goose harvest.
Wisconsin recorded the most Total Goose Hunter Days Afield in 2016, with Michigan and Minnesota rounding out the top three.
Texas recorded the highest Total Goose Harvest, followed by North Dakota and neighboring Minnesota. And the Lone Star State was also tops for Total Active Goose Hunters, with Wisconsin and Minnesota close behind.
Here's a list of the Top 30 States ranked by the estimated Total Active Goose Hunters in 2016.
(Goose hunter statistics don't include Brant hunter statistics for coastal states with Brant seasons: Connecticut, Delaware, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Rhode Island, Virginia, California, Oregon, Washington, and Alaska.)
Drilling down to the Top 10 states within the Mississippi Flyway for Total Active Goose Hunters, we see Minnesota, Wisconsin and Michigan leading the field.
