Texas Leads Nation With Most Paid Licensed Anglers and Hunters
The United States Fish & Wildlife Service released its National Fishing and Hunting License data for America in 2017. Texas had the greatest number of paid fishing license holders (1,745,002) and paid hunting license holders (1,148,765) in the country.
California sold the most resident fishing licenses, tags, permits and stamps at 2,339,546 and had the greatest gross sales from fishing licenses, totaling $60,799,812. Florida issued the most non-resident fishing licenses, tags, permits and stamps at 546,391. Eight states had at least 1 million or more paid license holders.

Looking at hunting license data, Texas not only had the highest number of paid license holders but also boasted the highest total gross cost of sales at over $44 million. Wisconsin issued the most resident hunting licenses, tags, permits and stamps at 2,695,812, while Georgia issued the most non-resident hunting licenses, tags, permits and stamps with 162,356. Five states had at least 700,000 or more paid license holders.
