Why Realtree Original for Waterfowl Hunting Season

Waterfowling camo has evolved tremendously since the days of tan canvas coats, green Jones-style caps and knee-high black boots.

Nowadays, hunters have their pick of ultra-realistic patterns. But as savvy veteran hunters will tell you, timeless camo classics still put lots of ducks and geese in the boat.

More than 30 years after its introduction, Realtree Original remains a deadly effective camo pattern for waterfowling. And why not? Whether they’re waiting for wood ducks along an oak-lined Wisconsin river or tucked deep into the green flooded timber of Arkansas during the peak mallard migration, waterfowl hunters often hide against trees and other dark vegetation. And the classic dark bark-like hues and contrasts of Realtree Original blend perfectly into such environments, concealing shooters from sharp-eyed waterfowl. The perfectly balanced concealment qualities of Bill Jordan’s original camo pattern remain just as viable today as they were three decades ago. Plus, Realtree Original provides a classic retro-cool look that appeals to many hunters and outdoors enthusiasts.

There’s more good news. Waterfowling is gear-intensive, so duck and goose hunters require realistic camo on many items, including hats, gloves, boats, facemasks, shotguns, outerwear, accessories and other gear. And after Original’s reintroduction in 2016, in celebration of Realtree’s 30th anniversary, many licensees began offering high-performance waterfowling products adorned in the pattern. Some are available for the Fall 2017 season, and others will be introduced in 2018.

No matter where you hunt — the distant cypress sloughs of Louisiana or the fabled Grand Prairie — you’ll likely see plenty of waterfowl hunters clad in Realtree Original camo this season. And although they’ll be almost invisible, it won’t be tough to recognize them. They’ll be the guys toting full straps of birds out of the timber.
