How Big is the Sporting Footwear Market?

Just for fun, let’s think big for a moment. Big, as in $21 BILLION worth of big. That’s the size of the U.S. sporting footwear market, according to statistics from the National Sporting Goods Association.
The chart below is self-explanatory as far as breaking down footwear types by category. What’s remarkable, I think, is the change from 2014 to 2015. The category grew by an average of 5%, with only two categories, sport sandals and hunting boots, declining, by 7% and 1% respectively.
The total U.S. footwear market is pegged at more than $80 billion annually, so at 25% of the total market, sporting footwear is a huge and important segment.
