These influences translate into products that appeal to a wide array of people who engage in many different lifestyle activities. For example, our Optimized for Outdoors lineup of products was specially designed with the outdoor enthusiast in mind. Whether they hunt, hike, bike, surf, run, paddleboard, camp or really whatever they enjoy doing, this line of rugged products is built to perform under extreme conditions.

Realtree Xtra was a natural complement to our outdoor, active-lifestyle focus, Cowles said. Avid sportsmen need the right gear — gear that’s as rugged as their pursuits. It’s a large, engaged audience of people who are predisposed to the camo look and, we believe, to products that also blend with that genre. This was at the heart of our decision to create out lineup of Realtree Xtra Scosche consumer-tech products.
(Being a Realtree licensee) provides us with an avenue to attract the sportsman populace and to provide products that fit with their pursuits and that in general make their journey easier and more entertaining, too. It is one of the more engaged segments of potential consumers, since everyone can benefit from our consumer-tech products, that we can reach out to via our marketing campaigns. And it provides a viable path of entry into retailers who carry products targeted to the sportsman and general outdoor enthusiast.
Partnering with a strong brand like Realtree also helps Scosche spread its message and establish its identity with potential customers, Cowles said.
Much like any lifestyle brand, we utilize a number of different facets of marketing to deliver our brand and product message to consumers,” he said. “From advertising to website and the many facets that exist in between, there are integrated programs in place to attract new customers and to reinforce our relationship with existing ones.
And although marketing has evolved substantially in recent years, Cowles said Scosche doesn’t view that as a challenge. In fact, he said it’s opened up new, unique opportunities.
Our approach has not really changed with the advent and popularity of social media, rich media, mobile-device usage for shopping and buying (and other factors),” he said. “Rather, those factors have been incorporated into our planning, budgeting and overall marketing mix. Social provides a great way to engage with consumers and potential consumers in a meaningful, personal way, allowing dialogue and sharing that many other facets of marketing cannot provide. It permits a more individual-based connection between the brand and consumers.
Likewise, it provides opportunities for feedback and criticism that didn’t exist a decade ago. Cowles said Scosche also takes advantage of those discussions.
Listening to consumers is essential for any brand,” he said. “You can listen to consumers in so many ways now, directly and indirectly. We use a number of mechanisms and venues, including our customer-service lines, product reviews, social media channels and the events we sponsor and attend, as a few examples. Each provides a path for listening to customers. Feedback is always welcome, whether it be positive or not so positive. It provides an opportunity for affirmation as to product decisions previously made, as well as a chance to look at possible improvements, enhancements and new product opportunities. In an era that is socially engaged, where the sharing of opinions and ideas is woven into the daily fabric of so many consumers’ lives, having such a discourse brings significant value to the relationship between our company, its products and consumers.
